"BLUE VEINS" DECONSTRUCTION: A FANVID COMMENTARY

Let me begin by saying I've never done anything like this before. It was a wild ride. And I put too much effort into it. (I always do. What's wrong with me?! LOL.) → I place 75% blame on ETV for the encouragement to do this, though. :D

◘  Blue Veins (my Loki vid; aka: topic of commentary)

◘  Audio Podcast (25 minutes long; sorry! Still, if you don't want to read...)

P.S. - Box.net, you are the bomb. You're like google docs, but I can keep my identity hidden this way. Hooray!
P.P.S. - Youtube.com, you are NOT the bomb. You rejected my audio podcast because it was over 15 minutes long? Screw you.
P.P.P.S. - Mediafire.com, thank you for saving the day!

→ Comments, even if they are just to say, "You are insane, woman. You need a new hobby" are appreciated. :D

Out of nowhere I have totally fallen in love with Tom Hiddleston.

BWAH! HAHAHAHA! Like I said, he is a persistent bugger. Kind of just follows you around for a while and suddenly you turn around and you're like "HIDDLES! You're awesome, man. I love you. Please marry me now, yes?"

I'm glad you're glad I took it on. I worried that I was being longwinded and boring. And no worries about repeating yourself - I've read this comment first, so it's all new to me. :)

Rewatching this I was struck by you mentioning that Loki doesn't really have any friends, that his brother is all he really has *sobs*: "that Thor is “all there is” for Loki is perfectly acceptable for him, because that’s enough."
It's such a sad thought, yet beautiful in the way it reflects on Loki and Thor's brotherhood/friendship.

I was quite struck by the relationship that Loki and Thor seemed to have in the beginning of the film. I went into this movie having no clue about Norse gods or what was meant to be endgame for these two characters and I 100% thought that Loki was Thor's closest friend and sound adviser. (I never saw him as a villain.) When Thor's upset about his ruined coronation, he tells Loki that it's unwise to sit next to him in this angered state or something like that. And Loki's only response is "Who said I was wise?" He could've easily been like, "Kay, I'm out of here. Stew in your rage." Naturally, I felt that they had a very strong bond and for Loki, Thor meant everything to him. *sobs*

I absolutely LOVE the 1:28-1:49 sequence for all the parallels and representation you brought to the scenes. For me, it's such a strong and important segment of the vid that sums up Loki, and resonates the rest of the way through.

I was so unsure about that part! I really wanted to use the revelation scene more in depth, but I thought that I was just rehashing it. I'm glad that my reasoning made sense to you.

And I also loved your reasoning behind having Loki walk away from his vigil over Odin: "]as if he’s trying to put it all behind him – whether that’s the lies or the truth." I love that as a metaphor.

Yeah, exactly. I just wanted to show how much of a toll this was taking on Loki. He just wanted it to be over with.

Another part that your deconstruction highlighted for me was 2:01-2:11, "In his darkest place, Loki conjures up his darkest memories. Remembers how Thor stepped over him or ignored his advice." THIS! Loved it. Loved the intent behind the scenes and your editing of them. The way you turned these bitter memories poisonous was FABULOUS.

Eeee! This was one of those parts that just came so naturally to me. Because, like I said, when (Loki, fictional character, aside) I, myself, get upset, an entire avalanche threatens to happen. Where one crappy day makes me think about another crappy moment and how I'm not cut out for this and yada yada. You know, it's just a build-up. I imagine Loki felt that same way. Once you start seeing something one way, you can't shut it off.

DUDE, there are about 3 deleted scenes that were just astounding for Loki's character. I honestly think the director worried that it made the supposed villain too sympathetic. I wish they left those in, but I'm glad they exist on film somewhere. They will always be canon in my brain. :)

Really, I have an accent that's not American? What kind of accent? lol. I was bilingual since birth (my parents only speak Italian), so I basically learned English from my older brothers and school (and TV ;D). Maybe that's why I sound a little funny.

Well, I'm glad you think I have a nice voice! It's good to know that if my intended career path fails, I can do some sort of voice broadcasting. (That'd actually be a pretty fabulous job, now that I think about it, actually!)

Anyhoo...loved this. And I entirely agree with you, re: British life ruiners and their Britishy ways. Hee! <3

Ain't that the truth!!! :D

And now for your reward for having a long attention span: XD

Oooh, a shiny!

Like I said, he is a persistent bugger. Kind of just follows you around for a while and suddenly you turn around and you're like "HIDDLES! You're awesome, man. I love you. Please marry me now, yes?"

OMGOSH! This! It's SO TRUE:D Hahaha.

Thing is, I knew he existed. I'd seen Thor ages ago (may have just watched it again the other day, too ♥) and inadvertently have 5 films of his on my hard drive, but it truly is as though he's just crept up on me. And now there's no escape... not that I'd want to:)

Because, like I said, when I, myself, get upset, an entire avalanche threatens to happen.

Same. It's why I loved how you showed those memories becoming poisonous for Loki. You can just imagine how many things he's had to endure - the jibes, the disrespect etc; and it wasn't as though he was saving them up for a rainy day, but when pushed, they become his fuel for the fire.

You sound American... just not AS American as I expected:D Or at least it doesn't sound that way through the audio. In person might be different. Though perhaps being bilingual you might have a more pliable tone to your voice.

Wow, I didn't even know he was in so many movies! I really don't think I've heard of him before Thor/The Avengers. So it very much was a sneak attack for me. :)

Yup, you really understood what I was going for there in that part of the vid. YAY! :D

Could be a whole slew of things that made me sound different than your expectations. Frankly, I think sometimes people aren't very culturally aware of each other. I kind of expect you to have an accent like Chris Hemsworth or Heath Ledger, but you probably don't! lol. Just goes to show we need to be open-minded, I guess. ;)

EXACTLY. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO DISCOVER YOU WERE NOT A RUGGED AND SEXY-SOUNDING AUSTRALIAN MAN, KIRSTY!

LMAO. No, of course not. I meant, accent-wise. :)
