"BLUE VEINS" DECONSTRUCTION: A FANVID COMMENTARY

Let me begin by saying I've never done anything like this before. It was a wild ride. And I put too much effort into it. (I always do. What's wrong with me?! LOL.) → I place 75% blame on ETV for the encouragement to do this, though. :D

P.S. - Box.net, you are the bomb. You're like google docs, but I can keep my identity hidden this way. Hooray!
P.P.S. - Youtube.com, you are NOT the bomb. You rejected my audio podcast because it was over 15 minutes long? Screw you.
P.P.P.S. - Mediafire.com, thank you for saving the day!

→ Comments, even if they are just to say, "You are insane, woman. You need a new hobby" are appreciated. :D

Oh wow, that's AWESOME! :D I adore hearing the details behind a vid like that, all of the thought that goes into each clip choice, what the vidder is hoping to get across, how the imagery and emotion are all tying together in their mind... I find it so fascinating! :D

You did a beautiful job with the vid and your commentary just makes it that much more fantastic! :D That was a lot of fun to listen to and read (I'm a listen-along-while-reading sort of gal, lol! ;) ) as well as a very cool peek behind the scenes of a great vid! *applause* ♥♥♥!!!

Out of nowhere I have totally fallen in love with Tom Hiddleston.
"Get in line" I hear the internet yell:P I know, I know... I'm a latecomer to this party and believe me, I didn't even see it coming, but I only just caught up with The Avengers and, coupled with your vid and the bromance that is Thor/Loki, something clicked:) So, watching "Blue Veins" again via this deconstruction, there's definitely a newfound appreciation.

I'm so glad you took the challenge on, Maria, because this is truly fabulous and was such an interesting read. Forgive me if I repeat what I've said at ETV, but it bears doing so:)

There are so many thought provoking segments here, but some particular faves are as follows:

Rewatching this I was struck by you mentioning that Loki doesn't really have any friends, that his brother is all he really has *sobs*: "that Thor is “all there is” for Loki is perfectly acceptable for him, because that’s enough."
It's such a sad thought, yet beautiful in the way it reflects on Loki and Thor's brotherhood/friendship.

I absolutely LOVE the 1:28-1:49 sequence for all the parallels and representation you brought to the scenes. For me, it's such a strong and important segment of the vid that sums up Loki, and resonates the rest of the way through.
And I also loved your reasoning behind having Loki walk away from his vigil over Odin: "]as if he’s trying to put it all behind him – whether that’s the lies or the truth." I love that as a metaphor.

Another part that your deconstruction highlighted for me was 2:01-2:11, "In his darkest place, Loki conjures up his darkest memories. Remembers how Thor stepped over him or ignored his advice." THIS! Loved it. Loved the intent behind the scenes and your editing of them. The way you turned these bitter memories poisonous was FABULOUS.

I also really loved finding out how much the deleted footage played a part in this. Nine times out of ten I think we can agree those scenes belong in the Special Features, however I was surprised at how intrinsic these were.

Lastly, your voice... not what I was expecting either, though I honestly had no preconceived ideas except perhaps imagining it being a tad more...American? lol. IDK. You have a subtle accent; at least that's the way it sounds to me.
You have a nice voice to listen to is what I'm getting at:D

Anyhoo...loved this. And I entirely agree with you, re: British life ruiners and their Britishy ways. Hee! <3
