Eep, the first picspam with more than 3 pictures involved! :D
+ Screencaps can be found in my Resources.; please don't use the following for your own picspams or icons.
+ Please feel free to let me know how this went. What you liked? What you disliked? This just might be my new hobby this summer, who knows? :)
+ Most have Youtube links to watch the video connecting to the pictures/quotes.

The idea for this one is simple →
5 favorite themes/things from my 5 favorite shows/movies of 2009

(Basically, this was just an excuse to look at pretty people, once more!)

I. «THE FALL» Okay, so I know this movie was technically watched in 2008, but I still love it lots.

THEME = She tries to save his soul.
ROW #1 =
Masked Bandit's Daughter: "Not the time to sleep, now. Not the time to sleep. Wake up. Wake up, its not the time to sleep now. Wake up. Don't pretend to sleep. Wake up."
[This scene is the first one that made me cry and it wasn't even the end of the film yet! It was so heartbreaking to see Alexandria so confused, thinking that Roy had just fallen asleep in the middle of telling her a story. And the majority of this scene had no music whatsoever, which just made it seem so surreal and wonderfully tragic.]
ROW #2 = • 0:52-1:06 & 1:16-1:30 (WATCH)
Roy: "Are you trying to save my soul."
Alexandria: [not understanding] "Hmm?"
Roy: "Are you trying to save my soul? Do you understand me?"
Alexandria: "What?"
Roy: "Did you understand what I meant?"
Alexandria: "What you said?"
Roy: "I said, are you trying to save my soul? Giving me that?"
Alexandria: "What mean that?"
Roy: "The Eucharist."
Alexandria: "What?!"
[It's hard to think of this movie as being "cute" when it's so damn depressing at the same time. But there are really heartwarming scenes between Roy and Alexandria (especially because of Alexandria's language barriers) that just makes you love these characters and makes you want them to be okay.]
ROW #3 = • 6:50-7:30ish with only the following and no big spoilers (WATCH)
Alexandria: "Don't kill him."
Roy: "There's nothing left for him."
Alexandria: "His daughter."
Roy: "He wasn't her father, either."
Alexandria: "She loves him."
Roy: "She'll survive, she's young."
Alexandria: "I don't want you to die. Don't kill him. Let him live. Let him live."
[Analogies. I love them. This scene had me bawling. It was just too much. GUH. So unbelievably touching.]

II. «FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS» You guys must've seen this one coming, right? :)

THEME = The boys are there for each other (ultimately, anyway!)

ROW #1 = • 2:30 and onward (WATCH)
Bret: "Here's your cup of tea, man."
Jemaine: "No thank you, Bret."
Bret: "Could you grab it; it's hot."
Jemaine: "Deal with it yourself. That's what I've learned to do the hard way."
[Those three scenes never fail to make me crack up. Bret's ways of apologizing for abandoning his friend when they were mugged are endearing and hilarious (OMG, Jemaine!pizza), and Jemaine's complete dismissal is great.]

ROW #2 = • (WATCH)
<this row's basically a collection of Bret&Jemaine moments, but the following concerns the last picture
[making up after a fight]
Bret: "You know, Jemaine, I've been thinking about love. And I guess it's the very strongest adhesive."
Jemaine: "Oh, sorry, Bret. Were you talking to me? I was humming."
[I love their songs. And this one is oddly inspirational, sweet, and funny simultaneously.]
ROW #3 = • (WATCH)
Jemaine as Talking Stove: "Cheer up, Bret."
Jemaine: "Mmm? It's the Talking Stove."
Jemaine as Talking Stove: "Things ... 'll work out."
Jemaine, seeing Bret crack a smile: "Yeah? You love the talking stove!"
Jemaine as Talking Stove: "Ahhh! Let's ... make a cake!"
[Every single thing about this scene is perfect. And the voice Jemaine adopts as the Talking Stove is hilarious. And the mere fact that he would do that to cheer up a depressed Bret is pretty much WIN. It's all so childish and adorable. Also, the end where they just look at each other as if to say "Hell, yeah, the Talking Stove rocks! Let's make that cake!" is amazing. I can never not laugh at this!]

III. «DOLLHOUSE» Yes, it was a very short season, but there were still stuff there besides background info. :)

THEME = Relationships. They're complex. And they're great to watch.

ROW #1 = • 1:17-1:36 & 2:08-2:22 (WATCH)
Sierra: "I don't know which to hope for ... it feels like dying either way."
Victor: "No... we'll look for each other like we always do. And we'll finish this. We will."
[The Victor/Sierra relationships is one of the sweetest on the show. They're both programmed to feel nothing, but there's this underlying instinct that makes Victor, in particular, fall for Sierra. They're so sweet together. Adorable. I hope this is explored further next season.]
ROW #2 =
Boyd: "Everything is going to be all right."
Echo: "Now that you're here."
Boyd: "Do you trust me?"
Echo: "With my life."
[Yes, Echo was programmed to say that, but that sticks around even after Boyd is no longer her Handler, such as when she trusts Boyd's word over Paul's later on in the season! I really love this father/daughter relationship that they have. Very reminiscent of Giles/Buffy! ♥]
ROW #3 = • 34:27-35:45 (WATCH; HULU)
November, the doll, as Mellie: "I like being with you. I love it, actually. And you say everything's fine so I'm going to stop asking if it is. If that means lying next to you while everything's not fine, well, that's what I'll do. I will give you what you need, and let you take it from me. If you want to give back, give back. But it doesn't have to mean anything."
[Paul pushes Mellie against the wall and onto the bed, kissing her forcefully.]
[This left me pretty speechless because Mellie is just giving herself over so willingly and it hurts to see that Paul toy with her emotions because he knows she's a doll, while Mellie, the personality she was given, feels those hurt emotions and rejections and everything. What hurts more is that Paul actually liked Mellie beforehand! And the whole sex scene here seemed like a violation almost. A bit scary. Well done, Joss!]

IV. «LOST» It's not my favorite of all time anymore, but I still do watch it regularly.

THEME = Minor Characters. Dear God, no more Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Kate/Locke/Ben/etc. Give me everyone up top instead!

ROW #1 = • 2:33-3:13 (WATCH)
<Some older characters/couples that we've grown accustomed to and haven't seen enough of at all lately!
Penny: "I thought I lost you."
Desmond: "I promised you, Penny. I promised you. I'd never leave you again."
[Still, my biggest OTP on this show. If harm comes to either of these two characters, I'll pretty much get everyone I know to write death threats to the LOST writers. Sayid kicks freakin' ass and he's the only one who still actually reasonable sometimes. And I adore both Sun's and Jin's journeys through time (literally) to get to each other. How sweet! ♥]
ROW #2 = • (WATCH)
<More awesome, under-looked characters unless a joke is needed or someone needs something scientific explained.
Dan, to young Charlotte: "In case what I do doesn't work, you cannot be here, you have to leave. I tried to avoid telling you this - I didn't think I could change things. But maybe I can."
[I felt really sorry for Dan when he died (because he's the only one who knew what the heck he was doing! and he was cute). And Miles is serving to be a really layered character. And the world just needs more Hurley, in general.]
ROW #3 = • (WATCH)
<Very, very minor charcters that I like and intrigue me.
Bernard: "People try their whole lives to get themselves a nice quiet place near to ocean where they can live in peace ... and we did it. That's what we made for ourselves."
---
Bernard: "So we die. We just care about being together. That's all that matters in the end."
[These characters are rarely ever around, but I enjoy them. Rose and Bernard stay away from the madness (go them!), and Frank is protective and sarcasticly cynical and young Eloise is self-sufficient, assertive, and cool!]

V. «SUPERNATURAL» I kind of feel like I should make an entire picspam devoted to this season of Supernatural. It's been outstanding!

THEME = Epic change! Seriously, everything about this season has been really dramatic and ... well, epic.

ROW #1 = • (WATCH)
<The season premiere alone was amazing.
Dean: "Right, and why would an angel rescue me from hell?"
Castiel: "Good things do happen, Dean."
Dean: "Not in my experience."
Castiel: "What's the matter? You don't think you deserve to be saved."
Dean: "Why'd you do it?"
Castiel: "Because God commanded it ... Because we have work for you."
[That was just the season premiere! In one episode, we find out that the Dean is pulled from Hell by an angel (who have never been introduced in the show beforehand) because God has work for Dean, that Ruby is back, and that Sam can exorcise demons with his mind! GUH.]
ROW #2 = • (WATCH)
<Still dealt heavily with family and it took giants leaps and risks when it came to that too.
Sam: "You don't know me. You never did, and you never will."
Dean: "If you walk out that door, don't you ever come back."
[Um, Mary was a hunter and she's the first one of the family to make a deal with the yellow-eyed demon! HOMG! Also, Dean and Sam had a half-brother (John's son). And most importantly, Dean and Sam actually gave up on each other ... and it was freaking heartbreaking. Oh, hot damn. SO very, very good. Those quotes above ... I mean, any SPN fan knows that these characters saying those words to each other is blasphemy. Of course, Dean knows Sam - he was always the only one there for him growing up. And of course Dean wouldn't turn his back on Sam like that. Ever. Just heartbreaking, man. :(]
ROW #3 {first picture} = • 1:04-2:57 (WATCH) & • (WATCH)
Alastair: "You know, it was supposed to be your father. He was supposed to bring it on. But in the end, it was you."
Dean: "Bring what on?"
Alastair: "Every night, same offer, remember? Same as your father, and finally you said, 'sign me up.' Oh, the first time you picked up my razor, the first time you sliced into that weeping bitch. That was the first seal."
Dean: "You're lying."
Alastair: "And it is written that the first seal shall be broken when a righteous man sheds blood in hell. As he breaks, so shall it break. We had to break the first seal before any others, only way to get the dominos to fall, right? Top of the one at the front of the line. When we win, when we bring on the Apocalypse and burn this earth down, we owe it all to you, Dean Winchester."
~~~
Dean: "Is it true? Did I break the first seal? Did I start all this?"
Castiel: "Yes."
---
Castiel: "I know our fate rests with you."
Dean: "Then you guys are screwed. I can't do it, Cas, it's too big. Alastair was right. I'm not a hero, I'm not strong enough. Well, I guess I'm not the man either of our dads wanted me to be. Find someone else. It's not me."
►►►
ROW #3 {third picture} = 2:53-3:26 & 4:18-4:38 (WATCH)
Sam: "No, no, no, no! Lilith! I stopped her; I killed her!"
Ruby: "And it is written that the first demon shall be the last seal. And you bust her open. Now guess who's coming to dinner."
Sam: "Oh, my God."
Ruby: "Guess again."
---
Sam: "You poisoned me."
Ruby: "No. It wasn't the blood; it was you. And your choices. I just gave you the options and you chose the right path every time! You didn't need the feather to fly. You had it in you the whole time, Dumbo."
[Inadvertently, Dean is the one to break the first seal in Hell, jump-starting the apocalypse, and Sam is the one to break the last seal, bringing Lucifer to earth. Oh, man. How terrible it must be for both boys to know that the people they've tried so hard to save will be killed because of them! And to know that they did it of their own volition, even if they were under harsh circumstances, is just too much! Thank goodness both boys play off "guilt and agony" really well! Such an awesome plot twist for the future season! ♥]
YouTube is full of Conchords goodness. I recommend their HBO One Night Stand, and their Texan Odyssey mockumentary if you can locate it. I uploaded it to one of the Conchords communities here not long ago. Worth a look at the boys being themselves (they are still hilarous).
I'm informative because I'm a complete fangirl *hides*
COUPLING! ♥ I love that show. I have a not-so-secret crush on Jack Davenport.
I've seen the HBO special - great stuff.
Jenny's gotta be the best 7 minute song ever! Hilarious!
Also I love their act: such as Bret's imaginary children dealing with imaginary issues and AIDs being a "fun monkey disease!" Awesome.
I'll need to watch the Texan Odyssey soon!
Coupling was fantastic; I was so excited it was coming to the U.S. (thinking they'd just air the originals), and was so disappointed when it had American actors that just didn't pull it off AT ALL! Seriously, American comedy is really sad these days. :(
Jack Davenport's one of my celebrity crushes too - he's so damn adorable! I was devastated at his character's treatment in Pirates of the Caribbean. Who cares about Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom - it's JACK DAVENPORT! lol. :(
Oh, I love Jenny. Adore it. Bus Driver Song is another fabulous song from their live act but it never got intergrated into the show (although it would be a tricky one to write in, even for them, I think!)
So, the big question is, are you a Jemainiac or a Bretsexual?
Yea, I remember that the US version didn't take off! I've never seen it personally. Better to steer clear, I think!
Ohh, Davenport is lovely. His accent especially. *swoon* I went to see The Boat that Rocked the other day and was happy to see him there, and apparently he + Joseph Fiennes are in a new TV show which has been picked up. YAY. He needs more attention. I too am one of those people who loathed what they did to the awesome Norrington in the last film. It was totally uncalled for. I won't watch the third film now. Plus I'm totally backward and ship Norrington/Elizabeth rather than anyone else, lol.
Ah, I also adore Bus Driver Song. It's so Beatles-y. (I thought for sure it'd be in the episode where Murray takes them to the gig at the airport since Murray even mentions that he always wanted to be a bus driver! They only had "Mermaids" in that ep too, so I really wonder why they didn't add this one in!) In general, I really love it when they do folksy/old stuff. :)
I'm amused that there are terms for such a thing. Hmm, I think I prefer Bret's character (the sensitive one and I do find him more physically attractive), but you just NEED Jemaine as part of the duo so, you know, I'm split down the middle, ultimately!
Steer clear of the American version; if necessary, hit an iceberg and sink, but whatever you do don't go toward the horror of the remake!
Hee! I love accents (which explains my love of British, Scottish, Irish, New Zealand, Australian, WHATEVER men!) :D OH, I'll have to keep a look out for Jack's new series, then!
I was ready to walk out of PotC 3 after Norrington's death. But alas, I was with friends and that'd probably be a bit weird! :) I don't really ship Norrington with Elizabeth (or anyone), because they all treated him like dirt! He deserved a helluva lot better! :(
There were hints that they were going to write it into one of the Season 2 episodes (New Zealand Town 2x08?? I think) as that has a 'bus driver' theme, and BIG OBVIOUS HINTS with dialogue and characters, and the episode was 5 minutes shorter than usual like they cut it out or something? :(
I didn't know the fans named themselves either, but I've learnt that since joining the "fandom" (I've always been a fan of the boys, but never joined the LJ comms). I tend to favour Bret, but I mean ultimately they go together, and I love them both!
I'm a shipper... I can't help myself. I just want to ship stuff. Ack.
Grrr.... I want my Paula Thompson song! :)
In the fandoms I'm a part of, it's usually just: Dean!girl or Sam!girl, etc. I like the originality here though. :)
Haha. It's a curse.
I think the terms Bretosexual and Jemainiacs were self-dubbed by the boys themselves when they weren't famous. And then ta-da, the names caught on once the show aired.
(I'm really not as obsessed as I sound - well, maybe I am, but they always appeared in the local papers at home because they are like the most famous NZers we have...!)
(Haha. Don't worry about it! If you start acting like Mel, I'll be freaking out, but if not, it's all good! :D)
Oh god, no - not Mel! I'm afraid I fall into that category of New Zealander where online I can squee, but in real life I am consistently unenthusiastic. It is a national trait.
