Social Events ... and Stuff ...
I know! I'm weirded out by them too! Nonetheless, I experienced some in the past few weeks. And it was pretty awesome.
1. Older brother took me bowling a few weeks ago. I did uber-crappy (scoring a 66 and 46) the first two games. Sadly, these are the scores, I usually manage. But we accidentally started the third game, in which I actually got two strikes. Hell, yes! Won the game with a 98. I bet everyone is laughing right now, but that's the best I've ever done, so, hey, I'm happy!
2. On the third, my brothers took us to see Mamma Mia. Now I do love my Broadway shows, even if I haven't seen many of them, but there's something about the shows with female leads that just don't agree with me. I felt the same way about last year's Grey Gardens, which, according to the Tonys, was a superb show (though, in fairness, the comparison between the overbearing mother in the show and my real show could've been a little too close to home for me to enjoy). I didn't particularly care for Mamma Mia either (the girls shrieking and squeeing - *shudders* I wanted to cut my ears off!). I also didn't really love the songs; I like a few ABBA songs, but they didn't really make the most of them. And the ending was just really silly. *eyeroll* I am so not a girl! I blame my male-dominated family. Damn older brothers! Argh... *shakes angry fist*
3. Went to celebrate Christmas/two friends' birthdays on Friday, the fourth. We went to see Sweeney Todd in Times Square. The movie was all right (though, goodness Christ, it certainly was not worth $12), but I didn't expect it to be so, um, musically and gory. Thought the ending was a tad predictable, too. And, y'know what, I may be the one person (female and male) that doesn't have a thing for Johnny Depp so I guess that didn't help either. *hides from Depp fans armed with rotten tomatoes* I'll leave it at that in case someone fears spoilers.
Then we went to Hard Rock Cafe. The food was surprisingly very good. The last time I ate there, I had a really bad experience that resulted in me using a subway station bathroom (it was disgusting - never use a NYC subway bathroom!). This time around I ordered a fajita and, wow, was that yummy! After Hard Rock, we headed back home for cake, photos, a bit of Wii-boxing, and gift-exchanging. Funnily enough, I received an Asian good luck charm (a jade necklace) and I instantly (and literally) thought: "Oh, pretty!" and put it on. Of course, later, my friend explains that you can't take it off once you put it on or else you'd have bad luck. So now all that's running through my head is Supernatural's "Bad Day at Black Rock!" Haha. Oh well. The necklace really is quite pretty so I guess I'll keep wearing it until it breaks. ;)
4. This past Thursday, I also met up with my junior high school friends. We bowled (I won with a 70-something ... not bad for me!) and had some pizza. There's this pattern and repitition that we always go through, but I really love it. I wish I could find it boring so we'd be able to explore other things to do for fun, but the familiarity of it is just so damn comforting and I always look forward to seeing them. It also doesn't hurt that Britt's house is like a freaking arcade for me! She has a Wii and pretty much every movie and TV series in the world; after all, I was first introduced to my loves (like Coupling, Dead Like Me, and The Princess Bride) there. We opted not to watch something this time though. Instead we played Scrabble. Whoo, Scrabble... Okay, despite my poor knowledge of English vocabulary, Scrabble is still fun. Geeky, but fun.
So, yeah, I had lots of fun! Mostly, it was due to the fact that I quit work (thanks so all those that gave me that great advice a few posts back). The boss took it pretty well. I was expecting more questions, but the answer "overwhelming school workload" sufficed and I'm really happy about it. I have been missing that bread though. Mm! *drools a little* No one made a nice loaf of Italian bread like they did. And they probably made it in the most disgusting of ways (one girl apparently once caught a guy spitting into another product), but damn, was the bread tasty! Too good to resist. We've starting buying multi-gran toast which is pretty delicious and I do like whole wheat bread too, but I do miss my white-flour bread.
In other news, most of the Christmas presents I promised my flist are done, with the exception of Katie's Supernatural fic. (Once that's done, I'll create an entry with all the gifts, even with those already posted in the comments of the initial entry). Sorry, hon, I tried to start it tonight, but I got far too distracted by Coupling. God, do I miss watching that show every week on a crappy PBS station. Oh, Jack Davenport and his amazingly-delivered rants! Also, ZOMG British accents. (I am not *squeeing*; I've learned the hard way, how tormentingly annoying that is!) Good times, good times...
